Thuraya Coverage Area Map

Before March 2008 Thuraya users could access two GEO satellites. A third one, called Thuraya-3, was placed on geosynchronical transfer orbit on January 15th, 2008. It has become operational as of the beginning of April 2008.

Thuraya coverage in Africa

Thuraya’s coverage area includes nearly all countries in North and Central Africa. Thuraya coverage in Angola

Most of the country is within Thuraya’s optimal satellite phone coverage area. This includes the countries capital, Luanda. Southern parts of Angola are within the sub-optimal coverage area, where coverage is not guaranteed and may vary.

2007 Thuraya coverage area

Until March 2008 Thuraya’s coverage area included Europe, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, North and Central Africa. The previously covered area can be seen on the map below. Thuraya coverage in Mozambique

Northern parts of Mozambique, including Nampula, Pemba, Lichinga and Tete, are within Thuraya’s optimal coverage area. Most of the central part of the country is within the sub-optimal coverage area, where coverage is not guaranteed and may vary. The southern part of Mozambique, including its capital, Maputo, has no Thuraya satellite phone coverage.

Thuraya coverage in Zambia

Most of the country is within Thuraya’s optimal coverage area, but it should be noted that this does not include the southern areas of Zambia, including Livingstone, Lake Kariba and the country’s capital, Lusaka. Southern parts of Zambia are within the sub-optimal coverage area, where coverage is not guaranteed and may vary.
