South Africa is covered only by two global satellite phone service providers:
- Iridium and
- Inmarsat
Thuraya coverage maps show that in the very northern part of the country there should be some sub-optimal Thuraya coverage area. Unfortunately, this is only the fringe of even the sub-optimal area (in which coverage is not guaranteed) and so satellite phone users should not expect to get any decent Thuraya coverage in South Africa, even in the northern parts.
