Iridium released its latest satellite phone, the Iridium 9555, in October 2008. The new Iridium 9555 satellite phone has gained ground since then, but still isn’t as popular as its famous predecessor.
The main improvement to the previous model, the Iridium 9505a, is its reduced by 30% size and weight. The Iridium 9555 satellite phone is also better at sending short emails and SMS. Some users though have found that the Iridium 9555 antenna doesn’t perform as well as in the Iridium 9505a model.
Iridium’s new phone is weather resistant. The Iridium 9555 satellite phone antenna is internally retractable. It has a mini-USB port and an integrated speaker phone.
Standby time is up to 30 hours with talk time up to 4 hours.
