SPOT is a personal tracking deviced introduced by Globalstar. It contains a GPS chip and is able to transmit signals using the Globalstar satellite system. The transmission is only one-way, which means the user of the device cannot receive messages or confirmations. The SPOT tracker is able to send out the following messages:
- 911 Alert – to alarm rescuers and emergenty search groups
- Ask for Help – to alert a predefined contact, i.e. family or a friend
- Check-in – to send current coordinates to predefined contact
- Track Progress – to periodically send current coordinates of the SPOT user, which can be then viewed on Google Maps.
