LEO |

satellite phone dictionary

LEO (Low Earth Orbit) is an orbit placed within 160-2000 kilometres above the Earth's surface. Both Iridium and Globalstar have their satellites placed in LEO. In comparison to systems with GEO satellites LEO-based systems experience shorter lags, though they are usually more complicated and expensive in use as many more satellites are needed to ensure constant coverage.
